Server administration.

Windows server administration includes the following daily routine tasks.

1. Health checks
a. Check event viewer for error logs.
b. Check for Automated daily checks scripts(individual company has its own admin methods)
c. Check for the AV to be in latest up to date Signature.
d. Check if the servers are updated with latest Patch.
e. Check for the backup status.
f. Check for hardware errors if any.
g. Check for the important services (needs restarting or check status)if any.

2. Check for Issues which can be fixed with restarting services. if any business outage please inform your reporting TL or manager about the task.

3. If any technical outage you need to fix the issue and Create a technical Case / Root cause analysis report and monitor the server for 24 hrs and then you can close the case.

4. If you have planned to change and thing on server / hard disk / application installation / hardware replacement. make sure you update the management about the change.


General Daily Issues:

1. Check for the disk Space, Both C drive and logical drive.
    There is a good tool by name tree size to check the size of the folders. and you can clear some unwanted space or move some data to logical drives.
2. Check for the server health status.
3. Check for file shares. if the server is up and shares are not visible, you can just restart the services by name:
Server and computer browser. after which your shares will be back online and accessible.
